SUMMER SCHOOL 2007 FOR BUSINESS STATISTICS

Objective

The program provides a comprehensive education and training for students in business statistics, market analysis, data mining and decision-making. Specifically it is designed to train students how to effectively and skillfully apply statistics to a number of areas in business, such as data centered management, financial management, market research, bank credit management, customer relationship management and risk management, etc.

Program Description

The program includes courses in Statistics and Business. The combination allows students to develop their knowledge of the statistical techniques most applicable to business along with an understanding of management information systems. The program provides students with case studies and projects to enable them to develop skills and techniques in solving real world problems. The program also provides students with training in statistical computer software frequently used in the business world. Students will be able to develop their IT skills and learn how to apply statistical techniques in real-world contexts.

All undergraduates in UIC, irrespective of major, are welcome.

Program Structure

The program is made up of five subjects:

  1. STAT 4120 Business Statistics II
  2. STAT 4130 Design and Analysis of Surveys
  3. STAT 4140 Computer-aided Data Analysis
  4. STAT 4150 Business Forecasting
  5. STAT 4160 Risk Analysis and Management.

      6. Remark

    1. "STAT 4120 Business Statistics II", "STAT 4150 Business Forecasting", and "STAT 4160 Risk Analysis and Management" will be offered during the Summer Vacation. The duration of each of the three Summer Course subjects is eight hours per week for four weeks.
    2. For non-statistics students, "STAT 4130 Design and Analysis of Surveys" and "STAT 4140 Computer-aided Data Analysis" are available as General Education Electives during the normal academic semester period.
    3. For statistics students, STAT 4130 is a major elective subject and STAT 4140 is a major core subject.
    4. STAT 4130 and STAT 4140 carry 3 credits, each. The other three courses are non-credit courses.
    5. After having successfully completed all five courses, students will be awarded a CERTIFICATE by the United International College (UIC).

Course Fee

The tuition fee for the entire program is RMB 3,000. Details as following:
For the three Summer Vacation Courses "STAT 4120 Business Statistics II", "STAT 4150 Business Forecasting", and "STAT 4160 Risk Analysis and Management", tuition fee of each is RMB 1000. The other two subjects, "STAT 4130 Design and Analysis of Surveys" and "STAT 4140 Computer-aided Data Analysis", are free.
