Galen received his B.A. in psychology and mathematics from the SUNY Geneseo in 1998. He worked as an actuarial analyst in New York City for nearly 5 years, passing the equivalent of the first two SOA examination courses, while concurrently pursuing his M.A. in applied mathematics from CUNY Hunter College (2002). In 2003, he left New York for Houston, TX, where he studied statistics at Rice University. His Ph.D. in statistics was awarded in 2008. Since then, he lectured at Rice University, spent a year as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Houston, Clear Lake campus, and then taught mathematics and statistics as an assistant professor at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). While at FGCU, he collaborated with civil engineering faculty on two papers, published a joint paper with Dr. David W. Scott on nonparametric density estimation, and proposed a minor in statistics. In August, 2011, he joined the Division of Science and Technology, Statistics Program, at UIC as an Assistant Professor. ¡@
