After almost four months of studying at UIC, the international exchange students knew how much their presence was appreciated thanks to the International Development Office (IDO) throwing them a farewell party. The students were taken to one of the local restaurants in Huitong village, where they were excited to get to cook the food themselves. IDO arranged for a hefty spread of food to be laid out ready to be cooked over open charcoal pits.

Swansea University exchange student, Molly Rabin, said “The learning experience has been really good. The staff at IDO and all the students who have helped us out have all been fantastic.”

The exchange students mentioned that the Director of IDO, Katharina Yu, and Administrative Officer, Jessica Xiao, along with the rest of the IDO staff did a great job of making one of their last meals together memorable.

Hamline University exchange student, Hannah Hoeger mentioned “I’ve learnt many things about the Chinese culture through food. To get the chance to cook it ourselves was really fun.”

What made the evening even better was the fact that many of the friends that the exchange students had made at UIC were also there. Roommates, classmates, teachers and some of the international interns were all invited to join in the fun and to provide a good send off with style. It was a great night of fond farewells and fun activities.

Swansea University exchange student, Ciaran Foley, said “I’m sure that I speak for all of the international exchange students when I say that this event was brilliant just like our overall experience in China and at UIC. Thank you IDO!”
